1838 Advert: TO ENGINEERS, MACHINE MAKERS, IRON & BRASS FOUNDERS, AND OTHERS, MR. JOHN WILLIAMSON respectfully announces that he is instructed by the 'Assignees of Messrs. Holt and Thomas, Bankrupts, to offer for SALE BY AUCTION, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th Days of March, 1838, at the Foundry and Premises, in King Cross Lane, in Halifax aforesaid, the whole of the WORKING IMPLEMENTS, FOUNDRY UTENSILS, STOCK IN TRADE, and other Effects :— Comprising One excellent High Pressure Steam Engine, of Five Horse Power, with Boiler all complete ; Eight Feet of Wrought Iron Shafting, with Drums and Gearing; One large Wrought Iron Cupola, with Chimney ; Blowing Apparatus (Three Cylinders 18 Inches Diameter), Shafts and Gearing complete ; Large Crane, Blocks, Rope, and Jenny, with Cross Beam and Slings ; Crane Ladle, Double Shanks, and Hand Ladles: a Quantity of Foundry Tools; Drying Stove with Iron Doors; Brass Furnace and Moulding Bench ; Forty Pairs Iron Moulding Boxes; large quantity of Wood Models, comprising complete Sets of Patterns for Six, Ten, Twelve, and Sixteen Horse, Portable and Stationary Steam Engines, and others of Smaller Dimensions ; great variety of Patterns for Pipes, Pillars, Spur and Bevil Wheels, Pedestals, Couplings and Lathes, &c. Anvils, Bellows, Swage Blocks, Hammers, Punches, Drifts, and Tools. One large Lathe for Boring complete ; One Nine-Inch Lathe; One Seven-Inch Lathe with Gearing ; Lathe Gantry, 24 Feet Long ; Turn- Tools; Screw Stocks, with a great variety of Taps and Dies; Six Vices ; Benches ; Grindstone and Trough ; Small Boring Machine ; Capital Planing Machine; a quantity of New Files ; Joiners' Tools and Bench ; One Jenny ; Two Pairs of Blocks ; Pump ; One Cart and Gears ; large Scales and Weights ; quantity of Bar Iron, Steel, Brass, and Iron Castings, Scrap Iron, &c. with a variety of other useful Articles. The Sale to commence at Ten o'Clock in the - Morning. N. B. The above Property is in excellent Condition, being nearly New.'[1]
