HOWARD STUART WILSON was born in Barbados in 1872 and went to the U.S.A. at the age of 16.
In 1895 he came to England and studied engineering at Mason College, Birmingham.
At the end of 1897 he sailed to Australia and New Zealand, where he carried out surveying work.
Returning to England two years later, he entered the service of the Daimler Motor Company as a draughtsman and later as a salesman. His surveying experience also enabled him to prepare plans for the extension of the company's plant.
In 1906, whilst in the service of the Simms Manufacturing Company, he took part in the inaugural run of 270 miles of a motor omnibus constructed for the Durham Motor Omnibus Company.
Later he became a representative of the North British Rubber Company, and Messrs. Charles Macintosh and Company, to whose service he returned after a period at the Ministry of Munitions during the War.
Mr. Wilson, who died in Brighton on 30th September 1927, became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1907.
