Captain Hubert H. Grenfell ( -1906)
He invented a gun sight and range indicator. His system was applicable to all guns, and offered advantages over the methods of sighting previously used. Grenfell applied a telescope to the head of the day sight, the bar of which, instead of being straight, was formed in a curve so as to enable all the increment of elevation for the different ranges to be made of equal length on the bar. Grenfell's sight presented objects right-way up rather than inverted.
