Construction machinery

Part of the Powell Duffryn Group

1962 Rhymney Engineering Co launched the first British all-hydraulic crawler mounted excavator through Peter Hamilton Equipment Ltd, which was marketed as Hy-Mac[1]

1967 Peter Hamilton Equipment and Hydraulic Machinery reported record sales of Hy-Mac hydraulic excavators[2]

1970 Rapid growth had led to sales of £10 million/year with a wide range of models but this had overstretched the company which was trading at a loss so the parent company had to make changes in the business[3]

1971 Whitlock, maker of earth movers, was sold to Powell Duffryn which would integrate it with Hy-Mac[4]

1974 Set up Hy-Mac Sales and Service to exploit home sales of excavators.[5]

1979 Sold to German group IBH[6]
