1951 The Indian Railways were created with 17 zones, the first of which was the Southern Railway
1951 Another zone was Central Railway
1952 April 14th. Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India inaugurated two new zones of the first six zones of the Indian Railways. One of them, the Northern Railway had the three "up-stream" divisions of the East Indian Railway: Allahabad, Lucknow and Moradabad, while the other, the Eastern Railway had the three "down-stream" divisions: Howrah, Asansol and Danapur and the complete Bengal-Nagpur Railway.
