1892 The Institution's inception was due to Mr. George Seymour, M. Inst. C.E., Assoc. R.S.M., who was the first President.

1998 Incorporated the Institution of Mining Engineers. The Mining Institute of Scotland was the Scottish Branch.

2002 Joined with the Institute of Materials as the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
