1983 Finance for Industry was renamed Investors in Industry (3i) bringing together under one name several existing organisations, only one of which retained its previous name, namely Industrial and Commercial Finance Corporation. 3i had 5 investment divisions and 3 subsidiary companies. It was owned by 9 commercial banks and the Bank of England[1]

1994 At the time of its London Stock Exchange flotation and entry into the FTSE100, the organisation changed its name to "3i".

Today 3i is a leading international investment manager, with £13.5bn of assets (2016) under management; it is focussed on private equity, infrastructure and debt management.
