"We regret to record the death, on November 10th, of Mr. Ivor D. Harries, manager of the open hearth and converter steelplants at Ebbw Vale works of [[Richard Thomas and Baldwins|Richard Thomas and Baldwins Ltd.]] Mr Harries, who was sixty-two, had spent all his working life in the R.T.B. group of companies. He started work in the laboratories at Cwmfelin, near Swansea in 1916 and two years later transferred to Duffryn steelworks as shift chemist. He remained there for thirty-four years, becoming successively rolling mills manager, melting shop manager and in 1941, works manager. In 1952 he moved to Ebbw Vale to take charge of the open hearth department and in 1963 was appointed manager of both open hearth converter steel-making plants."
