c.1923 John Pountney Udal developed automatic guards for the protection of operators working power presses. He went into business on his own account, having extended his invention to cover guillotines and other printing machinery.
1934 John Udal died
1937 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Automatic Guards for Power Presses, including "Longpull", "Safepull" and "Clutchlock" Types. Guards are shown on Presses running under power enabling practical tests to be made. Guards for Printing Machines etc. (Stand No D.524) [1]
