Educated at London University College School, Army tutors, and French tutors, Dieppe.
Pupil to William Dean, Chief Locomotive Superintendent at Swindon, Great Western Railway.
c.1890 Entered into partnership with Joseph Crookes as Mechanical and Electrical Engineers - J. E. Spagnoletti and Crookes
1900 Married Kathleen Mona Kemp, niece of the late Sir Benjamin Baker
Engineer to the Notting Hill Electric Lighting Co. during construction.

JAMES ERNEST SPAGNOLETTI, son of the late C. E. Spagnoletti who was President of The Institution in 1885 (at that time The Society of Telegraph Engineers), was born in 1860 and was educated at University College School and by tutors.
He then went as a pupil to the Chief Locomotive Superintendent at Swindon of the Great Western Railway.
Later he entered into partnership with Mr. Joseph Crookes as manufacturing electricians and contractors at Goldhawk Road, London, and they were engineers on the construction of the Notting Hill Electric Lighting Co.'s undertaking. The firm later became Spagnoletti Ltd. and he served for several years as Chairman of the Company.
Subsequently he became a Director of a number of companies, including Wellingborough Electric Supply Co., Lewes and District Electric Supply Co., Banbury and District Electric Supply Co., and the British Automobile Traction Co.
He retired some years ago and died at Westward Ho, Devon, on the 2nd October, 1942.
He joined The Institution in 1882 as an Associate and was transferred to full Membership in 1886.
