James George Weir (1887-1973). C.B.E., C.M.G., M. of Council R.Ae.S., Director of G. and J. Weir, Ltd., Cathcart, Early aviator.

1887 Born at Cambuslang, son of James Weir.

Educated at Dollar Academy.

Trained at Glasgow University, School of Mines.

Took the Metallurgy Course at School of Mines, Freiburg.

Apprenticed at G. & J. Weir, Ltd., and at North German Lloyd Works, Bremen.

1910 of Cathcart when he gained his Aviator's certificate (#24) at Hendon.
