JAMES JOSEPH DEVINE, whose death in his fifty-fifth year occurred on 14th February 1944, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1921. JAMES JOSEPH DEVINE, whose death in his fifty-fifth year occurred on 14th February 1944, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1921. After serving his apprenticeship from 1904 to 1909 in the marine and locomotive works of the Manchester Ship Canal Company and with the Dublin Dockyard Company, he went to sea as marine engineer, rising from second to chief engineer.
