James Reid (1833-1910) telegraph contractor, civil engineer.
1833 Born in London, son of William Reid and his wife Jane. Baptised at Old Church, St Pancras in 1834[1]
Apprenticed under Mr W. Reid, which business presumably became William Reid

From 1852 Superintended the erection of telegraph lines including those from London to the North, Glasgow, etc. Also superintended the erection of lines in France and Belgium. Also involved in the testing of the Atlantic Cable during its construction.
