1898 'Extract fro prospectus: 'This company has been formed for the purpose of acquiring, taking over, and extending the well-established business of textile and general machinists and engineers carried at Soho Works, Rochdale, by the Company of James Tomlinson (Rochdale) Limited. The business was founded in 1853. and was for many years under the sole control the late Mr. James Tomlinson, since whose death in 1881 it has been conducted by his sons, the directors of the vendor company. The vendor company was formed for family reasons, and the presentis the first issue of capital to the public. ... '[1]
