James Toyne Proctor (c1805-1873)

1805 June 17th. James Toyne Proctor christened at Upton, Lincolnshire the son of John Proctor and Catne. [1]

1840 Founder of Proctor and Burton later to become Ruston, Proctor and Co. Inventor of the Mitrailleuse subsequently used in the Franco-German war. [2]

1841 James Proctor living at Waterside South, Lincoln (age 35), Millwright. Living with wife Elizabeth (age 35) and sin Thomas (age 5) [3]

1851 James Proctor living at Waterside South, Lincoln (age 46 born Upton, Lincs), Millwright employing 8 men. With wife Elizabeth (age 48 born Lincoln) [4]

1857 Joseph Ruston joined Proctor and Burton forming Ruston, Burton and Proctor

Six months later Theophilus Burton disagreed with his partners and left the partnership

1861 James T. Proctor living at Waterside South, Lincoln (age 56 born Upton, Lincs), Engineer and Millwright employing 156 men and boys. With wife Elizabeth (age 59 born Lincoln) and a boarder. [5]

1865 Retired from the business

1871 James Toyne Proctor living at Osgodby House, Kirkby Cum Osgodby, Lincs (age 66 born Gainsborough Upton), Retired Engineer and Millwright. Living with wife Elizabeth (age 68) plus two visitors [6]

1873 January 29th. At Osgodby, the death of James Toyne Proctor age 68 years of Ruston, Proctor and Co [7]
