1966 John Brown and Co, shipbuilders, separated the engineering works from the shipyard by the creation of a new company.

"John Brown and Co (Clydebank) Ltd states that consideration of the future, particularly in light of the Geddes Report, has led to a decision by the board of John Brown and Co, fully supported by the board of John Brown and Co (Clydebank) Ltd., to separate a substantial part of the engine works from the shipyard and form this as a separate company, directly subsidiary to John Brown and Co.
