1853 Patent. '2782. To John Elce, of the city of Manchester, Machine Maker, for the invention of "certain improvements in machinery for spinning."[3]

1855 John Elce, of John Elce and Co, machine maker, of Alderley Edge[5]

1855 Patent. '943. To John Elce and John Bond, both of Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, Machinists, for the invention of "improvements in caseing, guarding, arid protecting, revolving shafts and mill work in general."[6]

1855 Patent. '1059. And Joseph Hallam, of Sheffield, in the county of York, Needle Manufacturer, and John Elce, of the city of Manchester, Machinist, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the construction of rowels or toothed cylinders for self-acting temples and other purposes."'[7]

1861 Concerning his estate. '...John Elce and others against Eliza Elce and others, the creditors of John Elce, late of Alderey-edge, in the county of Chester, Machine Maker, who died in or about the month of May, 1859...'[18]

1861 February 16th. Eliza relict of John Elce of Alderley, dies age 53 at Southport.[19]
