John Harper Bean (1885-1963)

1885 Born in Handsworth, only son of George Bean and Mary (nee Harper). Known as Jack

1914 Married Winifred Amy Wells[1]

1915 Birth of Brenda M. Bean[2]

1917 Birth of Diana B. Bean[3]

Post-WWI was made a CBE for his work in the business during the war.

1919 May. Mr John Harper Bean and the works manager of A. Harper, Sons and Bean visited the USA to investigate mass production techniques[4].

1919 Director of Harper Bean and Managing Director of A. Harper, Sons and Bean. Of Tonsley Hill House, Dudley.[5]

1920 September. The board of Harper Bean were told that the "Bean" car was being sold at a loss, in contrast to the previous impression given. Mr Harper Bean resigned as managing director[6].

1922 Birth of Patricia Bean[7]

1936 With Victor Riley acquired Armstrong, Stevens and Son Ltd from Sheffield Steel Products; they then sold shares to the public[8].

1963 Died at sea[9]
