JOHN LAWSON, born on the 18th of June, 1837, began his engineering career at the early age of fifteen, when he became an assistant to Joseph Locke on the Mantes, Caen and Cherbourg Railway, which afforded direct communication between Paris and the chief naval arsenal of France.
On the completion of that line in 1858, young Lawson returned to England and was employed for three years in the London office of Locke and Errington.
In March, 1861, he proceeded to Bucharest, where he was engaged until the following October in preparing plans for the paving and drainage of that city. Mr. Lawson then remained in Roumania, practising on his own account, until August, 1869, . . . [more]
