1896 Formation of partnership with Tom Bousquet Browne as James and Browne
1898 Dissolution of the Partnership between Tom Bousquet Browne and John Melville James carrying on business as Manufacturing and Contracting Engineers at 39 Victoria-street Westminster under the style or firm of James and Browne as from the 16th day of May 1898. The business was carried on by Tom Bousquet Browne in partnership with Francis Leigh Martineau under the same style of James and Browne.[1].

John Melville James was born in 1868.
He served as a Draughtsman with various firms before becoming Works Manager to the Adams Manufacturing Company, Bedford, in 1906.
After a period as Sales Manager to a coachbuilding firm he joined Phoenix Motors, Letchworth, as Works Manager, leaving them in 1928 to take up a similar position with Watson's, of Lowestoft, and was later associated with the firm of James Talbot and Davison, Ltd., producers of the Zephyr piston.
He died on 27th August, 1944, at the age of 76.
He was elected a Member in 1907.
