Professor JOHN MUNRO was Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Bristol.
He was for forty-eight years on the teaching staff of the Merchant Venturers' Technical College and its predecessor, the Bristol Trade and Mining School.
Professor Munro was born in Scotland in 1850 and was a student for four years at the Trade and Mining School.
He was apprenticed at the works of the Avonside Engine Company and in 1868 won an open Whitworth exhibition which he held at the Royal College of Science for Ireland, gaining the Associateship in 1871.
He then became lecturer at the Bristol Mining School. He was appointed Professor upon the foundation of Bristol University in 1909.
He had been a Member of the Institution since 1890, and his death occurred on 19th December 1930.
