John Ormerod Cottrill (1848-1932) of William Ryder and Co


1932 Obituary [1]

JOHN ORMEROD COTTRILL was eighty-four years of age at the time of his death, which occurred on 27th October 1932.

He was born in 1848 and commenced his apprenticeship in 1864 at the cotton mills of Messrs. John Hesketh and Company, Wilderswood, Horwich.

In November 1869 he was appointed assistant manager for Messrs. William Ryder and Company, spindle and flyer manufacturers of Bolton.

In 1897 he became general manager, and in 1921 was appointed managing director.

He retired in 1926, after sixty years' continuous service with the firm, but retained his seat on the board of directors until his death.

He had been a Member of the Institution since 1894.
