Location
Nightmare on Elm Street: On the 1894 O.S. map, Elm Street is shown with a large abattoir on the south side, and a skin yard on the north side. The boiler works had gone by that date, but reference to earlier trade directories indicates that it was on the short branch of Elms Street to the west of Water Street, close to the Pig Market. Immediately north of here was a viaduct carrying the MSJ&A Railway line to Salford.
