"JOHN THOMAS KNEWSTUBB spent the whole of his professional career in New Zealand. His apprenticeship was served with Messrs. Knewstubb Brothers from 1899 to 1903, and with the Stevenson and Cook Engineering Company, Ltd., shipbuilders, Port Chalmers, from 1903 to 1908.
He continued in the employment of the latter firm for a further seven years, occupying successively the positions of journeyman turner and fitter. During this period he obtained his first-class Board of Trade Certificate. After acting as mechanical and oil engineer for the Public Works Department of the Otago district he went into business on his own account as the proprietor of a motor garage. In 1921 he returned to the Stevenson and Cook Engineering Co as engineer foreman and subsequently was appointed general manager. Finally in 1928 he became managing director and part owner of the business. Mr. Knewstubb, whose death occurred on 12th July 1948 in his sixty-fourth year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1938."
