1871 Living at Lower Street, Stroud: John T. Marsden (age 30 born Manchester), Patent Leather Mill Strap Maker master employing 35 men and (?) land owner. With his wife Ann W. Marsden (age 31 born Nailsworth) and their three children; Caroline S. Marsden (age 5 born Matlock); J. Bertram Marsden (age 2 born Stroud); and Arthur Marsden (age 1 born Stroud). Two servants.[1]
1875 July 26th. Died. Late of Matlock, manufacturer and who died at 6 Weymouth Street, Portland Place, London. Will proven by William Bell Hunter, M.D., and Robert Wildgoose, of Holloway, Derby.
1875 Settlement of his estate. '...creditors of John Thomas Marsden Smedley, late of Riber Castle, Matlock, in the county of Derby, Esq., who died on or about the 26th of July, 1875...'[2]
