Sir John Turney ( -1927) of Turney Brothers

Sir JOHN TURNEY was for many years concerned with the manufacture of leather, having founded the Trent Bridge leather works of Messrs. Turney Brothers at Nottingham in 1861.
He served a seven years' apprenticeship in engineering works in Nottingham and was subsequently a draughtsman in an engineer's office until he entered into partnership with his brother. He took out a number of patents for improvements in leather machinery.
Sir John took a prominent part in the public life of his native city, and was twice Mayor of Nottingham.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1876, and his death occurred on 17th March 1927.
