JOHN TURTON ORRELL was born at Fairfield, Manchester, in 1862.

He was educated at a local school and at the Manchester Grammar School, afterwards serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Beyer, Peacock and Co., Gorton.

He then took up an appointment with Messrs. Nash and Co., of Sheffield.

In 1890 he started business for himself as inspecting engineer for various Governments, and continued in this work until his death, which took place on 30th March 1923, at the age of sixty-one.

He because a Member of this Institution in 1907.
