A firm of publishers established by John Weale

1848 Began to published the "Rudimentary Series" of texts covered 144 titles, mainly on scientific subjects, generally written by eminent men, and usually published at 1s. per volume. Weale invested over £48,000 in the series during the next thirteen years.

c.1861 The "Rudimentary Series", which had become Weale's greatest publishing success, was sold to James Sprent Virtue.

Weale subsequently published an educational and a classical series in a similar format, these works together constituting an important innovation in cheap educational literature.
