John West (1828-1863) of West and Gregson

1828 Born in Oldham, son of Thomas West, mechanic, and his wife Elizabeth; they lived at the Gas Works[1] He had a brother, John.

1848 Married(1) in Oldham to Marianne Ainsworth

1851 Living at Union Street, Oldham: John West (age 23 born Oldham), Gas Meter Manufacturer employing 20 men and 10 apprentices. With his wife Marianne West (age 24 born Rochdale) and their son Thomas Edward West (age 1 born Oldham). One servant.[2]

1855 Death of his wife Marianne

1861 Living in New Bath Street, Oldham: John West (age 33 born Oldham), Master Gas Meter Maker employing 70 men and boys. With his wife Elizabeth West (age 35 born Manchester) and their five children; Elizabeth West (age 7 born Oldham); Mary A. West (age 6 born Oldham); Susan West (age 4 born Oldham); Ada S. West (age 3 born Oldham); and Arthur B. West (age 1 born Oldham). Two servants.[3]

1863 December 21st. Died. Late of Brookfield, Oldham, Gas Meter Manufacturer. Probate to his widow Elizabeth.

1871 Elizabeth West 47, living on dividends in Oldham, with Thomas E West 21, civil engineer, John West 20, apprentice, Elizabeth West 17, Mariana West 16, Susan West 14, Ada S West 13, Emily M West 9[4]
