1835 List of New Patents: 'John Wilde, late of New York.... but now residing in Manchester,... Merchant, and Joseph Whitworth... for certain machinery for effecting the operation called knitting, and producing a fabric similar to that of knitted stockings. Partly communicated by a foreigner living abroad. Sealed Novemeber 10, 1835 - (Six months)'[1]
