We regret to observe the death, at the age of 56, of the well-known engineer, Mr. John Wyman Woodford, who was for many years one of the chief engineers of Messrs. Peto, Betts, and Brassey; he designed for Mr. Jas. Hodges most of the machinery, engines, and plant used in the construction of the great Victoria Tubular Bridge over the St. Lawrence, at Montreal, and, as chief engineer for the contractors, be superintended the construction of the Blackfriars Railway Bridge, and more recently the Callao Harbour; he was also the inventor of the well-known Woodford pump.
