1888-99 Worked under John Cooper Burgh surveyor, master of works and tramway engineer, Edinburgh, engaged in various street, sewerage and housing projects, conversion of tramways to cable operation, Powderhall Refuse Disposal Works, electricty power stations at Dewar Place and McDonald Road
1899 Took up position in Ayr
1901 John Young 38, civil engineer, lived in Edinburgh with Agnes E Young 34, Thomas E Young 5 Mths[2]
1910 Burgh surveyor, water and tramway engineer, Ayr Corporation when he became a Member of the Inst of Civil Engineers
