JONATHAN ENOCH HILL ALLBUT was a director of the Eclipse Foundry and Engineering Company of Dudley, which he had established in conjunction with his brother in 1919.
He was born at Tipton in 1874 and commenced his engineering career with Messrs. Lee, Howl and Company, Tipton.
After further experience with other local firms he joined the Sheepbridge Coal and Iron Company as works engineer and pipe-foundry manager.
In 1909 he became chief engineer of the Butterley Company of Derby, and in the following year he joined the staff of the British Westinghouse Electrical and Manufacturing Company at Manchester, and was appointed superintendent of foundries in 1911, holding that position until 1919.
He acted as Honorary Secretary of the Institute of British Foundrymen from 1907 to 1913 and did much by his voluntary work in this capacity to establish the position of the Institute.
His death occurred on 24th December 1931.
Mr. Allbut was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1903, and was transferred to Membership in 1915.
