"JOSEPH FRANK PEACOCK, whose death in his eighty-third year occurred on 23rd June 1951, was for many years in the service of the Vulcan Boiler Insurance Company, Ltd., as an engineer surveyor. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Hospital and the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, Bristol, where he gained the Crawford Mathematical Prize in 1889. After serving an apprenticeship with Stothert and Company, Ltd., Bristol, engineers, from 1884 to 1890, he went to sea as a junior marine engineer in ships of the Dominion Line. Subsequently he transferred to the Blue Star Line in the service of which he rose to be chief engineer and obtained an extra first-class Board of Trade certificate. He joined the Vulcan Boiler Insurance Co in 1896, and for twelve years was engineer surveyor. He was then made district engineer and served in that capacity until 1919 when he became chief boiler engineer. In the following year he was appointed joint principal assistant to the managing engineer. Mr. Peacock was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1908 and transferred to Membership ten years later."
