Joseph Offord (c1825-1896), coach builder

1842 Advertisement. Step Piece Barouche carriage. Offord's (Late Leader's established 65 tears), 79 Wells Street, Oxford Street.[1]

1852 Married in Marylebone to Sally Milton

1857 Mentioned. Joseph Offord and Robert Offord of 79 Wells Street, Oxford Street, coach builders.[2]

1858 Patent. 'Joseph Offord, of Wells-street, Oxford-street, in the county of Middlesex, Coach Builder. 'Improvements in the construction of carriages[3]

1862 Patent. '1203. And Joseph Offord, of Wells-street, Oxford street, in the county of Middlesex, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in carriages."'[4]

1876 Patent. '1008. And Joseph Offord,of Wells-street, Oxford-street, in the county of Middlesex, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in apparatus for opening and closing the heads of carriages."'[5]

1878 Patent. '3478. And Joseph Offord, of 79, Wells-street, 28, Brook-street, and 92, Gloucester-road, in the county of Middlesex, Carriage Builder, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the construction of omnibuses and similar vehicles."'[6]

1880 Showed an Omnibus at the 1880 Engineering Exhibition.

1881 Living at 31 Hereford Square, Kensington: Joseph Offord (age 56 born Boston, Lincs.), Coachmaker employing 62 hands - Widower. With his son John M. Offord (age 20 born Kensington), Coachmaker, and Marie J. M. Offord (age 17 born Kensington). Also a visitor Charlotte Offord (age 57 born Epping, Essex), Widow. One servant.[7]

1886 Listed as a director of the London Omnibus Carriage Co.[8]

1996 November 20th. Died, of 6 Boundary Road, St. John's Wood.
