1921 Obituary[1]
"Leigh.— On November 27, at his residence, 53,Easton. Rise, Ealing, London, W., Mr. Joseph William Leigh, London manager for John Lysaght (Lim.), of Bristol and Newport (Mon.), aged sixty-six. Mr. Leigh entered the service of the' company in 1885, and remained throughout in the London office, of which he had for many years been manager.- He was a shrewd and capable man of business, and was widely known in the iron and steel trades, his distinguished bearing and courteous manner- being familiar to a host of friends. That his attention to detail.-and his methodical style were not confined to his business affairs is exemplified by the fact that he left with his papers the following written instructions :
If Mr. John S. Balfour, director of Messrs. Croggon & Co. (Lim.), should survive me, please ask him to notify my death to the Editor of The Ironmonger, and mention that I was a godson .of the late William Vaughan Morgan (one of their original proprietors), and was christened-after him, my father being an intimate friend of the -Morgan family.
Mr. Leigh, who represented his company on the London Iron and Steel Exchange, frequently attended the meetings of that institution. We published in our issue of March 27, 1920 (p. 325), a series of sketches made for us by a well-known artist on the Exchange, and Mr. Leigh was one of the' familiar figures delineated by the artist’s pencil-. Mr. ‘Leigh was a widower."
