1896 Richard Theiler established Electrotechnisches Institut Theiler & Co in Zug, Switzerland, together with Adelrich Gyr-Wickart, producing electricity meters as well as telephone magnetos and phonographs.
1904 Theiler appoints Heinrich Landis as his successor to continue the company.
1905 Heinrich Landis took Dr. Karl Heinrich Gyr as a partner.
1912 Established subsidiaries in London, Vienna and Frankfurt, with factories in Berlin and Rastatt (Germany).
1912 UK subsidiary incorporated as a limited company.
1914 Manufacturers of electricity meters and instruments. Specialities: metal filament lamps, Elgee electricity meters, Elgee time switches for automatic control of electric street lamps, contact clocks and time switches (compensated pendulum and balance wheel) for direct current, single-phase and poly-phase circuits. 1996 Swiss Electrowatt Ltd. acquired a majority share in Landis & Gyr.
1998 Siemens took a share in the industrial arm of Electrowatt. The metering businesses of Siemens and Landis & Gyr Utilities were combined in the newly established Siemens Metering.
2002 Landis+Gyr spun out of Siemens with venture capital support.
