Lex Service Group, of London
1969 The name of the Lex Group of companies was changed to Lex Service Group; in addition to its original business of motor vehicle distribution, the company planned to enter other service activities not related to the motor trade cycle[1]
1970 Lost a contest with Hanson Trust for Steels Garages but then Hanson agreed to let Lex Services purchase it, and acquire Tillotson Commercial Motors and Swain Group (Motors) from Hanson[2]
1970 Tendered for a hotel at London Airport in conjunction with Hyatt[3]
1971 Started to diversify into non-vehicle businesses, especially hotels[4]
1986 The automotive business comprised Volvo Concessionaires, Lex Brooklands and Lex Mead[5]
1989 As well as motor distribution, including the national Volvo franchise, the group operated a major business distributing electronic components throughout Europe[6]
1999 Acquired RAC from the members of the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) and it was merged with the Lex Garages operation
2002 Lex Services renamed itself RAC Plc.[7]
In March 2005, RAC Plc was acquired by Aviva, and therefore delisted.
