• 1817 George Lister walked from his home town of Liversedge, Yorkshire, to Dursley, Glos., where he gained employment as a card-maker in the wool cloth industry.

• Soon after, on inheriting some money, George purchased Rivers Mill, Dursley and developed it into a card-making and wire-drawing factory.

• George married Charlotte who gave birth to four children, two of whom died young. After Charlotte died in 1832, George married again. His second wife, Louisa, had four sons and four daughters. ROne of them was Robert Ashton Lister, born in 1845, who went to found R. A. Lister and Co.

• 1870 George died. Although he had six surviving children, he left his business to his brother-in-law, William, who renounced any claim to it. The executors ran the business until the 1890s when William's sons, James Fraser and George, took over. They broadened the product range.

• 1894 the Lister Electric Light and Power Manufacturing Co was established at the Rivers Mill, Dursley - this brought electric power to the town for the first time.

• 1903, after the death of William, the company was taken over by R.A. Lister, creating the Lister Electrical Machinery Co

• 1907 The company and factory was taken over by Mr H. St. Hill Mawdsley forming Mawdsleys.
