1852 Formation of Association of Foremen of the Engineering Trade.
Presumably later became the London Association of Foremen Engineers before adopting the current name.
1871 37th half-yearly meeting; 120 ordinary members and 80 honorary members[1]
1872 19th anniversary dinner; Joseph Newton was president; David Walker was secretary.
1874 300 people attended the 21st anniversary dinner. Thomas Brassey M.P. chaired the dinner; Mr A. J. Mundells MP, who was a member of the board, was one of those who made speeches.
1875 Around 400 people attended the annual dinner[2]
1878 The 25th anniversary dinner was held in the presence of various MPs, members of the House of Lords and other well known people[3]. Lord Granville was elected President.
1887 34th anniversary dinner; Lord Thurlow presided. Unlike previous such occasions, hardly any employers of note were present. Mr. Powrie was president of the Association. The deputy chairman on this occasion was Mr. William Beardmore.[4]
