Louis Alfred Porritt (c1865-1927) of William Tatham
1927 Obituary [1]
LOUIS ALFRED PORRITT spent the whole of his engineering career in the textile-machine manufacturing trade and specialized on machinery for the reclamation of cotton waste.
He joined Messrs. William Tatham of Rochdale in 1880, and a few years later was taken into partnership.
In 1912 he reconstituted the firm as a limited liability company, and in conjunction with his two co-directors he was able by his efficient methods and high ideals to secure for it a leading position in the manufacture of that type of machinery in which he was most interested.
He was one of the founders and for many years chairman of the Rochdale Engineering and Machine Makers' Employers' Association.
Mr. Porritt, who died on 29th October 1927 in his sixty-second year, became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1898 and a Member in 1901.
