He was one of the proprietors of the renowned steelworks of Jacob Holtzer & Company at Unieux, in the department of the Loire, whose principal products are chrome steel, tungsten steel, and manganese steel. The properties of some of these descriptions of steel were described by Mr. Brustlein, engineer of the Unieux Works, in a paper read before the Institute in 1886. The works were visited by the Institute in 1889, when the manufacture of chrome steel projectiles was seen in operation. | |||
Mr. Holtzer took great interest in local affairs, and at the time of his death occupied the position of Mayor of the Commune of Unieux. | |||

LOUIS JACQUES DIEUDONNA HOLTZER died at Paris on August 6, 1894, at the age of thirty-two. He was educated at the Paris School of Mines, and graduated there as mining engineer.
