Marconi Electronic Devices sister company to Marconi Avionics.[1]
After the failure of negotiations with Fairchild of USA, GEC decided to establish a new subsidiary, Marconi Electronic Devices, to bring together its various semiconductor activities; these included:[2]
- AEI Semiconductors
- GEC Semiconductors
- The micro-electronics division of Marconi Space and Defence Systems
The company would design and develop and manufacture integrated circuits, hybrid microelectronics, microwave semiconductor devices and power semiconductor devices. Lincoln would be the the home for a new VSLI (very large scale integrated circuit) production facility as well as design centre.
