Mia Mia (Redesdale) Bridge

Designed by T. B. Muntz. It is said that the wrought iron lattice girders were originally made for the Hawthorn Bridge by Lloyds, Fosters and Co of Wednesbury, England. The ship carrying the ironwork arrived in 1859, but caught fire and was scuttled. New ironwork was ordered for the Hawthorn Bridge, and the original parts were eventually salvaged. Hawthorn Bridge was designed with the road deck on top of the girders, whereas on the Mia Mia bridge the deck passes between the girders and rests on the lower chords. Three pairs of arches connect the girders above the roadways. The Wikipedia entry provides much information on aspects of the bridge and its history.
