National Aero Engine Factories
Established by the Ministry of Munitions:
- Hayes
Original function: the "Goss" printing works.
Management: Mitchell and Shaw and Co. Ltd. until October 1917, then the Ministry of Munitions.
Products: aero-engines.
- Ladbroke Grove
In 1917 there was increased demand for Rolls Royce aero-engine repairs so the [[Clement Talbot]] Ltd works at Ladbroke Grove was assigned this work. Friction over repairing a rival firm’s product led to the nationalisation of the plant in January 1918, after which repair of Rolls Royce aero-engines was carried out and spares for Talbot motor cars were produced. The factory employed 1,994 people in November 1918, of whom 18.6% were women.[1]
Opened: 1 January 1918.
Management: Clement Talbot Ltd.
Products: 608-off Rolls Royce aero-engines repaired, and production of engine spares.
- Edmonton
1918 GCF 4 was transferred to the Air Board for aero-engine repair work.
