1870 Company formed for purpose of constructing and maintaining telegraph lines. Agreed to acquire the telegraph business and works of R. S. Newall and Co at Gateshead and various concessions granted to that company to instal telegraph lines; Robert Stirling Newall and Charles Liddell signed contracts to manage the business for 2 years[1]
