Frederick Henry Varley and his brother Octavius Varley went into business as consulting engineers and manufacturers of cable testing equipment.

1869 Patent on secondary batteries

1871 Octavius died but F. H. Varley went on using the title O. and F. H. Varley until the 1880s.

1872 Richard Pentney Eidsforth became manager of the Mildmay Park Works
