PERCY ELLISON was born in 1873 and served his apprenticeship at the Malleable Iron and Steel Works, Stockton-on-Tees, from 1887 to 1892. He remained with that firm for a further three years and was placed in charge of the locomotive repair department. After occupying the position of erecting shop foreman and assistant works manager to Messrs. W. G. Bagnall, Ltd., at their Castle Engine Works, Stafford, from 1896 to 1902, he was made works manager to the Ryknield Engine Company of Burton-on-Trent.
On the completion of a brief engagement as superintendent of the Leeds City Tramways in 1906, he received the appointment of general manager and engineer of the transport department of the Borough of Eastbourne, and began a connection, which lasted for thirty-three years. During the war of 1914-18 he was also in control of the manufacture of munitions in the Sussex and Kent area for the Admiralty. Mr. Ellison was assistant divisional food officer from 1939-42 when he was appointed the machinery department representative in the S.E. Counties for Messrs. Thos. W. Ward, Ltd., Sheffield.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1919 and was transferred to Membership in 1921. His death occurred on 1st December 1944.
