1878 The hotel, built by the local architectural partnership of Young and Meldrum, was intended to be, in effect, a railway hotel, by virtue of its proximity to the proposed new Caledonian Railway station. However, that development did not take place on the anticipated site.
1921 A company, the Queen's Hotel (Dundee) Limited was incorporated. This company was dissolved in 1947.
The hotel was used as a base by Sir Winston Churchill when he was MP for Dundee. Frank Sinatra also stayed there during his only visit to Dundee, where he performed at the Caird Hall, in 1953. A notable feature of the hotel is the seven metre long Thompson Mural, an interpretation by artist Ken Bushe of the 1910 plans of city architect James Thompson for the Dundee waterfront.
2017 The hotel began operating as Best Western Queen's Hotel
