Robert Henry Davis (1870–1965)
1882, aged eleven, Davis entered the firm of Siebe and Gorman of Lambeth, manufacturers of diving equipment. His neat handwriting was noticed by William Augustus Gorman, who placed him in the main office. He completed his education out of office hours and was promoted assistant manager.
1900 Davis married Margaret Tyrrell (d. 1952). They had four sons and two daughters.
1911 Robert Henry Davis 40, submarine engineering, employer, lived in Surbiton, with Maggie Davis 37, Robert William O'Gorman Davis 9, Harry Davis 8, Eric William Davis 7, Phyllis Margaret Davis 5, Molly Davis 2[1]
1929 Inventor of the Davis submarine escape apparatus and later of a submersible decompression chamber used in deep sea diving
Davis rose to become general manager and then managing director.
1932 Governing director of Siebe, Gorman and Co.
1959 Became life president of Siebe, Gorman and Co.
